and then the bush said... 2010
20 feet x 40 feet x 40 feet
This was part of a residency where I stayed at the home of the late James Washington Jr. Enamored by the positive energy that Mr. Washington’s home and garden exuded, I spent a good deal of my month long residency listening to Washington’s audio taped lectures. These lectures, full of his personal spiritual perspective were riddled with his laughter. Author Tom Robbins once referred to Mr. Washington as a man who laughed from his fingertips. I concurred. I edited these lectures to isolate Mr. Washington’s laughter. This audio played in his garden while I responded with this installation.
While in residence I lived in the former home of Mr. Washington. This home still contained many of Mr. Washington's things. Toward the end of my time there I discovered a numerology book the cupboard amongst his cookbooks. I used this book to assist in determining a series of dishes for the opening.
