Thread, makes use of the existing drop ceiling, where plastic panels and 18-inch acrylic mirrored security domes replace ceiling panels. These new panels create a fabric like pathway that guides the viewer from the lobby to, and then up the stairwell, to the foyer and back. The domes function to subvert the notion of surveillance the kids so often feel shopping in their communities by injecting an element of playfulness, while also “threading” them into the fabric of the space. This not only invigorates the space, keeping it constantly active and moving, but also surrounds the individuals who use the space with a community reflected in their own image.
